  • Yea! We are finally doing some work on our home!!!!

Yesterday, we had the gardner rip out the UGLY
shurb trees in the front yard!

Today the roofer came and tore off the old roof...

Then we started some work in the backyard.  This used to be a screened in patio, but 5 years ago we got rid of one side of it (it was a huge built in BBQ) -- and it has been left unrepaired since then.

On Thursday the roofers are coming back to put on the new roof.

Hopefully next week the new patio will be put up -- If not it should still be by the end of the month.

We need to tent the house for termintes.  That means we will be having to find a place to stay for 3 days.  Trying to figure out what we are going to do (if we will stay together or if we will split up for the 3 days).  I was hoping to take a quick 3 day trip to the Grand Canyon as it is only 8 hours away.  But we'll see.

We are working on getting some bids for painting.  That should be done within the next month as well.

    Two more pictures, just because.

    1) I got my hair cut shorter and layered this week. (Check out my post before this one -- the first picture is what my hair looked like before).

    2) I just love this picture Julie took of herself!

    That's all for now.

I'll update in a few days when the roof is on.

  • We've done a lot on our spring break  -- I've included some pictures interspersed through my post for your viewing pleasure!

I was reading my friend's site and this thought came to mind about something we used to do when the kids were little.

We mainly did it during the hours we homeschooled, but if we were having a particularly difficult day all around, we'd do it then, too.

We would have a "Praise the Lord" time.  We'd set a timer for 20 minutes and  when it went off, we'd all stop what we were doing and start giving Praise to God for who He is and for the things we were thankful for.

It's amazing how this changed the atmosphere in my house.  One might be getting over frustrated with school, and another one acting out,  another two arguing, mom starting to lose her cool and "DING!"  we'd all stop and start praising God.

This had a wonderful effect on us as we switched our thoughts from ourselves to God: discontent quickly leaves when we focus on thanksgiving and the atmosphere was immediately changed from stress to joy.

For me personally, when it would catch me in my frustrated/anger/losing my cool kind of state, it helped to remember why I was doing what I was doing:
mom-ing, schooling, wife-ing, chore-ing -- and that was to honor God in all I do -- for His glory and not my comfort or for fulfilling my expectations.  Keeping that first and foremost on my mind helped me to rest in God's joy and peace.

    Have a blessed Easter!!!

  • Do you ever look at nature and it takes your breath away?  Whatever you're looking at is so very beautiful or intricate?

I had one of those moments today...

And it always makes me wonder:

How much more will I be moved by the beauty and glory of the Creator when we come face to face?!!!

Can you image it... I try, but I'm sure I could never even come close to what it will actually be like!!!

    The heavens are telling of the glory of God;
And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.
    ~Psalm 19:1

On a different note -- a while back I posted about my little pond at my home that I grew up in.  I found a picture of it...

I used to lay on the big rocks on the far side of the pond by the abalone shells here....

    Awwww -- sweet memories!

March 30, 2007

  • Hi all.  I seemed to have fallen off the xanga earth for a while now, but I'm back.  Just a very busy March!!

Our Julie turned 12 on Tuesday!!!  Happy Birthday!!!

My girls performed at the Westminster (our city) 50th year celebration.  Here are some pictures:

I love this song I have now playing on my site! Especially the first verse.

    Hear Me Calling, Great Redeemer

    As I walk Lord
    Through the valley
    Hold my hand
    Hold my trembling hand
    If I stumble
    By the wayside
    In Your strength
    help me stand

    The sparks fly upward
    while the wind blows
    like a spirit
    lost upon the sea
    I am torn, Lord
    Born to trouble
    I am blind
    I am weak

    Hear me calling, Great Redeemer
At the foot of Your dark cross
    Where You suffered
    For the sinner
    bleeding, dying for the lost

    Go before me
    Through the valley
    Speak to me
    For I know Your voice
    Bring me homeward
    Gentle Shepherd
    God of love
    God of grace

  • Chist HAS RISEN from the grave, indeed!!!!

Did any of you catch any of that dumb show last night (The Jesus Tomb)?  We put it on (it was DVR'd) as we were going to bed, so I didn't make it through much of it (maybe 10 minutes before I fell asleep) -- but the first 20 seconds was all I really needed to see.  They had a couple of paragraphs to read at the beginning of the show -- not read out loud, mind you, you had to read it... it said "basically" :) that there was nothing proven in this documentary however, they will leave it up to your intellegence  and wise intellect (those might have not been the words they used, but that is what they were conveying) to figure out
what the truth is -- it should have read, what their "truth" is.

Anyways -- I say again, PRAISE GOD FOR MY RISEN SAVIOR!!!

I missed posting about my daughter's birthday so I will do it now.  She turned 14 on February 24th.   She got a new beach cruiser for her birthday (she paid for most of it).

    Happy Birthday, Valerie!!!!!

Also, I did some deep cleaning to my bedroom.  It's the room in the house that gets the least picking up and everything that doesn't have a place get's put in there.  So this weekend I made a point to find everything a place that was in my room!!! Yea!

I told a couple of my friends that I would post some pictures of it -- so here it is!

One last thing... I found this on another friend's site -- being from the "Pong" age, I thought it was very cleaver and funny!!!

  • Hi all.

I know Easter is not for two months, but, well, you can never start celebrating the Risen Savior too early!!  We should be celebrating it every day.

I have some pictures of my mom.  She turned 69 last Sunday.

I absolutely love this picture.  I love the expression on her face!

  • Yes, that's me in the middle -- My sister, Marilyn and my brother, Ken, on either side of me.

We have a little brother, Mike, too -- not so little any more -- he turns 41 in a month.

I grew up in Oakland, California - up in the hills.  We lived in this wonderful pink and white house where I shared a room with my sister until she moved out to be married when I was 16.

We had a pond in our back yard.  I used to love to lie on the rocks and watch the little guppies swim around.  We had a few goldfish as well.  It was my place of solitude.  I remember countless hours lying on the rock watching the fish and thinking, creating, dreaming... those childhood days when my huge problems where picking up my room and doing homework.

If I find a picture of the pond, I'll post it.  I must have one around somewhere.

Hope you all are having a great week.

    Happy Valentines Day on Wednesday.

  • Hi all...

Sorry I haven't updated in a while.  I have been trying to concentrate on some other things lately.  And... I just really don't have much to say.

Things have been going ok.  The girls' dance schedule just got a bit more busy.  Elizabeth and Valerie pretty much have dance each night of the week, except Wednesday.  Julie has it three nights and Grace has it one.  I've had to juggle the schedule so that we still can all have dinner together each night, however Tuedays is a lost cause.  The classes start 4:30 and end at 9:30: 4:30 beginning ballet (ages 5 - 9) Val (assistant) & Grace , 5:30 beginning & Intermediate ballet (ages 10 - teen) Val & Julie , 6:30 - 9:30 Contemporary, Advanced Ballet, Pointe Ellie & Val.   There is just not a time when we are all together on that night.   I just found out that the ballet teacher that teaches the 6:30 - 9:30 class does not get to eat before she arrives (She goes to school full time at UCI and comes straight from classes ) so since I bring food for Val at 6:30, I decided to bring some food for the teacher too -- I mean, what's one more serving....

The Julie also takes Tap (Monday) and Beginning Jazz (Thursday).  Val also helps in Julie's tap class and takes an intermediate Tap *Thrusday) and helps in a tiny tot ballet class (Monday).  Both Ellie and Val help out in a Hula/Polyneasian (ages 4 - 12) class (Fridays).  And Ellie takes an Advanced Jazz class (Thursday) and, for aerobic and to up her endurance, also takes a Hip Hop class (Monday).

In this, we are blessed for two reasons.  The owner doesn't offer sibling discounts, but just offered it to me since my girls and myself help out so much and also the studio is only a mile a way so going back and forth only takes about 5 or less minutes.

Well on a completely different note -- here is something silly I saw on Stargazingtoo's site.

  • Good morning all.

I don't have much to say, but thought I should update since i really haven't in a while.

I keep starting sentences and then erasing them.  I don't think that I am able to adequately express what is going on in my head since the death of Steve's dad.  It's all vast and jumbled.

Every so often a song just sits with me for a while.  I can't seem to hear it enough -- for a long time it was the song Our Heart that I had playing on my site.  Recently, the song in my head has changed to the one that should be now playing on my site: O Sacred Head Now Wounded. Great words! -- GREAT words.  If you have not had a moment to stop today, please pause and reflect on these words!

    O sacred Head, now wounded,
With grief and shame weighed down,
    Now scornfully surrounded
    With thorns, Thine only crown;
How pale Thou art with anguish,
    With sore abuse and scorn!
    How does that visage languish,
Which once was bright as morn!

What Thou, my Lord, hast suffered,
    Was all for sinners’ gain;
    Mine, mine was the transgression,
    But Thine the deadly pain.
Lo, here I fall, my Savior!
    ’Tis I deserve Thy place;
Look on me with Thy favor,
    Vouchsafe to me Thy grace.

    What language shall I borrow
    To thank Thee, dearest friend,
    For this Thy dying sorrow,
    Thy pity without end?
    O make me Thine forever,
    And should I fainting be,
    Lord, let me never, never
    Outlive my love for Thee.

  • **Begin Edit**
The funeral was Saturday.  It was very sad.  Don't know what else to say, but just wanted to let you all know that we are grieving, but hanging in here.
    **End Edit**

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

We've had some sad news this morning (12/26)-- Steve's dad passed away. The only
thing we knew heading over to their house was that "they" had tried to revive
him and couldn't. We didn't have any details - like when he died or how or where
    or anything.

We arrived around 11:20am-- his dad passed away at 10:45am.
To our shock, he was still lieing on the dining room floor awaiting the
coroners. His mom had gone to take a short morning nap and heard some weird
noises. When she got to the kitchen she saw him unconscious on the floor and his
pill basket (where he keeps all his meds) on the floor by him. He had taken a
pill -- he wasn't even able to swallow it all the way before he died... he must
have know something was amiss because he had already had his meds that morning -
    he had a heart condition.

We had all of our children with us, so did his
brother and wife. So you can imagine the shock to all of them as well to see
grandpa on the floor covered by a sheet. They handled it very well, I must say.
The coroners didn't arrive until 1:50pm (YIKES!).  So there is grandpa on the
floor and we are all sitting in the ajoining family room.  To give you an idea
of the space -- it would be like if he was lieing where our kitchen table is and
we were sitting by the TV in our family room.  It was all very surreal -- it's
    still all very surreal.

Please pray for Steve, his mom Pauline, and his brothers, Mike and Bob and
all the grand kids.  As most of you know the last few years the relationships
between his parents and the brothers have been strained (to put it mildly) so
please also pray for the brothers as they work through all of the emotions that
are going along with the death and unresolved issues.
