• We’ve done a lot on our spring break  — I’ve included some pictures interspersed through my post for your viewing pleasure!

  

  I was reading my friend’s site and this thought came to mind about something we used to do when the kids were little.

  
  
  
  We mainly did it during the hours we homeschooled, but if we were having a particularly difficult day all around, we’d do it then, too.
  
  

  

  

  
  
  We would have a “Praise the Lord” time.  We’d set a timer for 20 minutes and  when it went off, we’d all stop what we were doing and start giving Praise to God for who He is and for the things we were thankful for.
  
  
  
  It’s amazing how this changed the atmosphere in my house.  One might be getting over frustrated with school, and another one acting out,  another two arguing, mom starting to lose her cool and “DING!”  we’d all stop and start praising God.
  
  
  
  This had a wonderful effect on us as we switched our thoughts from ourselves to God: discontent quickly leaves when we focus on thanksgiving and the atmosphere was immediately changed from stress to joy.
  
  
  
  For me personally, when it would catch me in my frustrated/anger/losing my cool kind of state, it helped to remember why I was doing what I was doing: mom-ing, schooling, wife-ing, chore-ing — and that was to honor God in all I do — for His glory and not my comfort or for fulfilling my expectations.  Keeping that first and foremost on my mind helped me to rest in God’s joy and peace.
