Hi all.
I’m in Nevada on vacation at my parents. The trip up was loooooong! Normally an 8 1/2 hour trip took us 10 hours. We made a lot of stops, stopping probably a 1/2 hour total in Stockton to say hi to the cousins, but what took a lot of extra time was road construction driving over the Sierra Nevadas. We stopped in Newcastle for gas (about 100 miles from Reno at the base of the mountains). My stomach was hurting so Elizabeth started to drive. I have to hand it to her — it’s difficult driving on the windy roads with huge trucks cutting in and out of your lane at various speeds.
Elizabeth has never driven on mountain roads before — she did a great job. So as we are buzing along and we come to this road construction at the top of the pass and the freeway comes to a complete hault. So as she comes to almost a complete stop, the van stalls, but she doesn’t realize it quite at first until the car starts to roll backwards. We all know how cars act more difficult when you try to brake when it’s not on. Poor thing. It scared the death out of her. I had her put on the hazards and try to get the car started — but it wouldn’t — so I had her put it in park and get out and trade places with me (Priasing God at this point that the freeway wasn’t really moving much at all). I got it going, but it stalled 3 more times during the stop and go traffic on the pass…. stressful as you can imagine and after already having been on the road for 9 hours, it was exhausting as well.
Other than that, the drive was fine, but as I said, looooooooong!!
The weather has been hot hot hot — in the 100′s every day. Today we got a tad of rain (but still it was 90 out side) and there was a beautiful rainbow. I took a picture of it on my phone and tried to email it to myself so I could post it, but it wouldn’t send… bummer. I’ll post pictures later.
Today I went with my parents to buy a new computer (finally – they are running a computer with windows 98 on it). We got it all set up and tomorrow I need to help them get DSL running on it.
Steve flies in tonight. He will be here in 50 minutes!! YEA! I miss him much!
Love to you all.

Ya know, Becky, the car really does run great and we have not had this problem in AGES… It ran well other than that. But, hopefully, if things continue to pick up for Steve, we can get a new one — well, not a new one new one— but a used one new one — maybe a 2004 or 05 or something!

I’ll join the ‘good job Izzy’ club. I drove partway to Whyoming when I had my permit and some of that was scary… for both me and my parents… haha
