  • Had
a good day today.  We have passes to Disneyland and it was one of
my friend’s daughter’s birthday today, so a bunch of us went.  It
was a lot of fun, although I was not feeling really good.   I
was doing pretty good until I went on Thunder Mountain Railroad, which
is a roller coaster type ride (the one that guy died on last year…)
    – anyways, it a pretty tame ride, but it felt like my brain was
bashing into the side of my skull every turn we made.   I
kind of have this sick headache thing going.  Oh well, hopefully
    tomorrow I will be better.

My oldest, Elizabeth, however, is not doing so great.  She’s had
the flu (the influenza type) since Thursday and she’s not getting any
better.  Now she has a real bad earache, so I think if she’s not
doing any better in the morning I run her over to prompt
care.   I hate to jump the gun on taking my kids to the
doctor — especially with the flu — as it usually takes 6 days to even
start feeling better.  Yet, I hate for her to be suffering with a
secondary infection any longer than she’d have to…

Here’s a picture from the archives.

This is Elizabeth and I, July of 1992.  It was taken about a week after she got out of the hospital.

My husband and I took a trip to Hawaii and left Elizabeth with my
sister-in-law, Debbie.  Before we left she was having some
bruising on her legs and such, but we figured for a 15 month old that
recently learned to walk and run, it wasn’t very abnormal.

Near the end of our trip, Debbie called to say that Elizabeth was
getting blood blisters from her pampers around the waist and that she
dropped a toy mirror on her eyebrow while she was being changed and it
turned into the big bruise a few minutes later.

Debbie took her to Choc Hospital where she was admitted for suspected
leukemia.  Steve and I flew home on a red-eye to get there the
next morning for her spinal tap.  Thankfully, it turned out not to
be — it was something called ITP which are the initials to something
that mean that her platlet count was low for some unknown reason (which
means you bleed really easy).  It should be above 225,000 and she
was down to 6000!!!!  They treated her for a few days then we were
free to go — scary, though…

At home, we had a few pictures left from our the underwater disposable
camera we had in Hawaii — so we took some picture of us in the pool
    with her.

Well — off to bed I go.
    Nigthie-night!
    ~me
